Aluminium bin stores
Powder-coated aluminium wheelie bin stores that tidy away two, three or four bins and won’t rot or rust like timber and steel.
What is an aluminium bin store?
A bin store is a slatted aluminium enclosure that hides your wheelie bins: general waste, recycling and food waste. The front opens with doors or the lid lifts on gas struts, so bins go in and out easily and lids can be opened in place. In powder-coated aluminium it doesn’t rot like timber or rust like painted steel, and it can match your gates, fencing and windows.

The 2026 planning exemption for bin stores
Since 27 July 2026, Irish planning rules include a specific exemption for bin and bicycle storage. It covers a structure with a floor area of up to 3.5 m² and a height of up to 1.4 m, in the front or back garden, enough for three wheelie bins. There are conditions about where it goes in a front garden, so check the details for your site. Our stores are designed around those limits. Our planning guide covers the other home exemptions too.
Designing around real bins
A standard 240-litre wheelie bin is roughly 1.1 m tall. Under a 1.4 m height limit, that doesn’t leave much room. So the lid either lifts to let the bin lid open inside the store, or the front opens so bins wheel out. We design each store around the bins you actually have, including a smaller food-waste bin if there is one, and allow for the bins getting bigger or smaller if your collector changes.
How we survey, supply and fit bin stores
- Survey. We check the spot, the ground, the bins you have and how you’ll wheel them out on collection day.
- Design. We agree the size, opening style, slat design and colour.
- Made to measure. The store is made to fit your bins and space.
- Installation. We assemble the store and anchor it securely to the ground.
- Handover. We check the lid, doors and struts work smoothly.
Typical uses for bin stores
- Front gardens where bins sit in full view
- Narrow side passages
- Apartment and terrace frontages
- Holiday homes, where bins need securing against wind
Bin store FAQs
Do I need planning permission for a bin store in Ireland?
Since 27 July 2026, bin and bicycle stores of up to 3.5 m² and up to 1.4 m high are exempted development in front or back gardens, subject to conditions about where they’re placed. A larger or taller store may need permission.
How many bins will a bin store hold?
Our stores are made for two, three or four wheelie bins. A three-bin store, for general waste, recycling and food waste, is the most common.
Will an aluminium bin store blow over?
No. It’s anchored to the ground or slab. That matters in exposed spots where empty bins and light timber stores tend to end up across the road.
Can I open the bin lids without taking the bins out?
Yes. A lift-up lid with gas struts lets you open the store from the top and drop rubbish into the bins in place.
