Glass processing
Glass processing services
Cutting, edgework, drilling, toughening, laminating and decorative finishes, completed in the right order so your glass arrives ready to install.
Why the order of processing matters
Once glass is toughened it cannot be cut, drilled or edged. Every size, hole and cut-out is fixed before heat treatment, so we check your specification carefully at the start.
01
Cut
Sheets are cut to size and shape from your schedule or template.
02
Edge & drill
Edges are finished and holes, notches and cut-outs are added.
03
Toughen or laminate
Heat treatment or lamination turns the glass into safety glass.
04
Finish & check
Decorative finishes are applied, then every piece is checked and packed.
Cutting & edgework
Straight-line and shape cutting from sheet, with an edge finish to suit where the edge will be seen.
- Arrised (seamed) edges for safe handling in frames
- Flat polished edges for exposed and frameless glass
- Bevelled edges for mirrors and decorative glass
- Radius corners and shaped panels from templates
Drilling & cut-outs
Holes, notches and cut-outs for hinges, handles, patch fittings, sockets and switches, positioned from your drawings or hardware templates.
- Holes and countersinks for fixings
- Notches for patch fittings and hinges
- Socket and switch cut-outs for splashbacks
- All positions confirmed before toughening
Toughening & laminating
Heat treatment turns processed float glass into safety glass, and laminating bonds panes with an interlayer so the glass stays in place if it breaks.
- Toughened to EN 12150; heat-soaked to EN 14179 on request
- Laminated to EN 14449 with PVB interlayers
- Toughened laminated glass for balustrades and overhead glazing
Sandblasting & decoration
Privacy and decorative finishes for doors, partitions and shopfronts, applied at the right stage of processing.
- Full or partial sandblasting and frosted bands
- Logos and patterns from vector artwork
- Manifestation and privacy films
- Colour-backed painting for splashbacks and cladding
What we need to quote
The more complete your enquiry, the faster and more accurate the quote. A clear sketch with dimensions is often enough.
- Sizes for each piece in millimetres, width × height
- Glass type and thickness, if known
- Edge finish for each exposed edge
- Positions of holes, notches and cut-outs on a drawing
- Quantities and the date you need the glass
- Delivery address, or collection
Glass processing in Dublin, start to finish
Good glass processing is about doing every step in the right order. Glass has to be cut, edged, drilled and notched before it is toughened, because toughened glass cannot be worked afterwards. Laminating, painting and coating come last. Planning this sequence is what turns a sheet of float glass into a part that fits first time.
We handle the full glass processing chain for trade customers and homeowners: cutting to size, flat and pencil polishing, bevelling, drilling holes for hinges and fixings, socket and hinge cut-outs, toughening, laminating and back-painting.
Send us a drawing, a template or just the sizes and hole positions. We check every detail before the glass goes into production, so you get processed glass that is ready to install.
Glass processing FAQs
Can you drill holes in toughened glass?
Not after toughening. Holes are drilled before the glass is toughened, so we need the hole positions with your order.
What edge finishes do you offer?
Arrissed (safety) edges, flat polished, pencil polished and bevelled edges, depending on the glass and where the edge will be seen.
Can you work from a template?
Yes. Card or hardboard templates are ideal for shaped glass, splashbacks and fireplaces.
Do you process glass for the trade?
Yes. Joiners, kitchen fitters, shopfitters and installers use our glass processing services. See our trade partner programme.
Survey, installation and glass replacement
Processing is only part of the job. For windows, doors, glass and garden structures, we also measure on site, fit what we supply, and replace broken or misted glass in existing frames.
- Site survey & measuring: what we check on site before anything is made
- Installation: how we fit windows, doors, glass and garden structures
- Glass replacement: misted double glazing, broken panes and safety glass upgrades
