Aluminium front doors
Insulated aluminium front doors with multi-point locks, slim sidelights and a finish that still looks sharp in ten years.
What is an aluminium front door?
An aluminium front door combines a thermally broken aluminium frame with an insulated door leaf, either a solid panel or a panel with glazed sections. The most popular style is the flush door, where the panel covers the frame on the outside, so all you see is one smooth face, a long pull handle and the lock. Inside, the door shuts against several locking points down its full height, not just a single latch.
Aluminium front doors at a glance
- Door leaf: Insulated aluminium panel, flush or with glazed sections
- Frame: Thermally broken aluminium
- Locking: Multi-point lock. Keypad, fingerprint and app-controlled options
- Glazing: Laminated or toughened safety glass in sidelights and fanlights
- Hardware: Pull bars, lever handles, letter plates and spy holes
- Finish: Any RAL colour, with different colours inside and out available
Why aluminium for a front door?
It stays straight. A front door gets slammed, rained on and baked by the sun. An aluminium frame doesn’t swell in winter or warp in a south-facing porch the way timber and some plastics can.
It’s secure. Multi-point locking, a stiff frame and laminated glass make aluminium doors hard to force.
It holds its colour. Powder coat is baked on, so a dark grey or black door doesn’t chalk and fade within a few years.
It’s warm. Insulated panels and thermally broken frames mean new aluminium doors can reach a U-value of 1.4 W/m²K or better.
How we survey, supply and fit front doors
- Survey. We measure the opening, check the threshold height and sill, and note anything that affects the design, like steps, porches or an awkward ramp.
- Design. We pick the panel style, glass, handle, lock and colours with you, and confirm it all in writing.
- Made to measure. The door, frame and any sidelights are built to your sizes.
- Fitting. We take out the old door and fit, fix and level the new frame. Then we seal and insulate around it and finish the reveals. Most front doors are done in a day, so you’re never left without a lockable door overnight.
- Handover. We set up the keys, codes or app, and show you how to adjust the lock if the door ever needs it.
Choosing your front door
Flush or standard? On a flush door, the panel sits over the frame for a clean, modern look. A standard door sits inside the frame, which suits more traditional houses.
Light. If the hall is dark, glazed sidelights or a fanlight make a bigger difference than glass in the door itself. Use satin glass for privacy without losing light.
Letters. A letter plate in the door is traditional. A wall-mounted post box keeps the door fully sealed and draught-free. Ask yourself how much post you actually get.
Smart locks. Keypad and fingerprint locks are handy for families and anyone tired of hunting for keys. Every smart lock we fit still has a mechanical key override.
Colour. Anthracite grey, black and white are the safe choices. Deep greens, blues and reds look great on period houses. If you’re having new windows too, match the colours or deliberately contrast them.

Front door FAQs
Are aluminium front doors secure?
Yes. A well-made aluminium front door has a multi-point lock that engages at several points along the frame, a stiff, hard-to-flex frame, and laminated glass in any glazed sections. Smart locks add convenience, and they always keep a mechanical key override.
Will a new front door qualify for the SEAI grant?
It can. SEAI’s windows and doors grant pays €800 per external door, for up to two doors, for homes built and occupied before 2011. The door must reach a U-value of 1.4 W/m²K or better and be fitted by a contractor on SEAI’s register. Check the current terms on seai.ie before you order.
How long does it take to fit a new front door?
Usually a day. The old door comes out and the new one goes in on the same visit, so the house is never left without a lockable door.
Do aluminium doors fade in the sun?
A quality powder-coated finish is very resistant to fading, even in dark colours on south-facing doors. Wash it a few times a year with mild soapy water, and more often near the sea, to keep it looking new.
Can I have a letterbox in an aluminium front door?
Yes. Letter plates can be built into most door panels. Some people choose a wall-mounted post box instead, which keeps the door fully sealed and stops draughts.
