Horizontal slatted aluminium fence with a matching gate around a garden

Fencing

Slatted aluminium fencing

Horizontal aluminium slats on slim posts. A clean, modern boundary that never needs painting.

What is slatted aluminium fencing?

Slatted aluminium fencing is made of horizontal powder-coated aluminium slats held between slim aluminium posts. The gap between the slats can be tight for privacy or wider to let light and air through. Unlike timber, it doesn’t rot, split or need staining. Unlike solid panels, it lets some of the wind through, so a storm puts less strain on the posts.

Slatted aluminium fencing at a glance

  • Slats: Horizontal extruded aluminium slats
  • Gaps: From tight privacy spacing to open, airy spacing
  • Posts: Slim aluminium posts, set in concrete or bolted down
  • Height: Usually up to 2 m at the side and back of the house
  • Finish: Any RAL colour, plus wood-effect finishes
  • Matching: Gates and privacy screens in the same profile

Why choose aluminium slats?

It lasts. No rot at the base of the posts, no warping, no splitting. The fence you put up stays looking like the fence you put up.

No painting, ever. The powder coat is the finish. An occasional wash is all it needs.

Made for wind. The gaps between slats let some wind pass through, which reduces the force on the fence. Posts are sized for the height and exposure.

It looks right with modern houses. Horizontal slats in anthracite grey or black match aluminium windows, doors and gates.

How we survey, supply and fit slatted fencing

  1. Survey. We measure the run, check the ground, existing walls and levels, and agree the height and post positions.
  2. Design. We pick the slat profile, gap, colour and any matching gates.
  3. Made to measure. Slats and posts are cut to suit your run, including stepped or raked panels on sloping ground.
  4. Installation. We set posts in concrete or bolt them down onto walls or slabs, then fit the slats, keeping lines level and gaps even.
  5. Handover. We check every panel and leave the site clean.

Choosing slatted aluminium fencing

Gap size. Tight gaps give near-total privacy. Wider gaps give a lighter, more open fence and let more wind through.

Colour. Anthracite grey and black are the most popular. Wood-effect finishes give a timber look without the upkeep.

On a wall or in the ground? Bolting slats onto an existing low wall raises the boundary neatly. Remember that wall plus fence counts towards the height limit.

Sloping ground. Panels can step down the slope or follow it. We’ll show you both options.

Slatted fencing FAQs

How high can a slatted aluminium fence be?

At the side and back of a house, boundary fences up to 2 metres high are generally within the planning exemption. In front of the house the limit is 1.2 metres. Check with your council if the fence faces a road or your house is protected.

Will slatted aluminium fencing give me privacy?

Yes, with tight slat spacing. Looking straight on, you see very little through the gaps. Wider gaps trade some privacy for more light and airflow.

Can aluminium fencing be fitted on top of a wall?

Yes. Posts can be bolted down onto a sound wall with base plates. The combined height of the wall and fence counts towards planning limits.

Does aluminium fencing fade?

A quality powder-coated finish is very resistant to fading. Washing it a couple of times a year keeps it looking new, especially near the coast.
