Aluminium pedestrian gates

Side gates and garden gates that lock properly, close themselves and match the driveway gate and fencing.

What is a pedestrian gate?

A pedestrian gate is a single, person-width gate. It might sit beside the driveway gate, secure a side passage, or lead from one part of the garden to another. In aluminium, it’s built in the same slat profile and colour as your driveway gate and fencing, so the whole boundary reads as one design.

Aluminium pedestrian gates at a glance

  • Gate: Powder-coated aluminium, slatted or solid infill
  • Width: Made to measure for the opening
  • Locks: Keyed, keypad, coded or electric release
  • Hinges: Adjustable, with self-closing options
  • Posts: Aluminium posts, or fixed to existing pillars
  • Matching: Same profiles and colours as fencing and driveway gates

Why the side gate matters

Side passages give access to the back of the house, and that’s where most of us are least careful. A tall, solid side gate that locks automatically when it closes is one of the simplest security upgrades a house can have. Self-closing hinges and a latch that locks on closing mean nobody has to remember.

How we survey, supply and fit pedestrian gates

  1. Survey. We measure the opening, check the walls or posts either side, and agree which way the gate opens.
  2. Design. We choose the infill, height, lock and closer.
  3. Made to measure. The gate is built to your opening.
  4. Installation. We hang and adjust the gate so it closes and latches every time, and fit the lock.
  5. Handover. We show you how the lock works, and set the code on keypad locks.

Choosing a pedestrian gate

Locks. A keyed lock is simple. A keypad or coded lock means no keys to lose, which is useful for side gates used by the whole family or a gardener. Electric release locks can link to an intercom.

Self-closing. Hinges with a built-in closer swing the gate shut behind you, which is ideal if you have children or a dog.

Height and privacy. Side gates are usually as tall as the fence, up to 2 metres at the side or back of the house.

Pedestrian gate FAQs

Can a pedestrian gate match my driveway gate?

Yes. We make pedestrian gates in the same slat profile, infill and colour as our driveway gates and fencing, so they match exactly.

What’s the best lock for a side gate?

For security and convenience, a lock that latches automatically when the gate closes, with a keypad or key outside and a handle or thumb-turn inside, is a good choice. Combine it with self-closing hinges.

Can a pedestrian gate be opened remotely?

Yes. Electric release locks can be connected to an intercom, keypad or app, so you can let someone in without going to the gate.

How tall can a side gate be?

Gates up to 2 metres high are generally exempt from planning. At the side and back of the house, most side gates are built to match the fence height.
