Moisture-resistant mirror

Moisture-resistant mirror has an enhanced protective backing that stands up to steam and humidity, so bathroom and spa mirrors stay bright without black edges or spots.

What is moisture-resistant mirror?

Moisture-resistant mirror is a silver mirror with an upgraded backing system designed for humid places. The silver layer is protected by corrosion-resistant coatings that slow down the edge damage and black spots that steam and condensation can cause in ordinary mirrors.

Bathrooms, en-suites, spas, swimming pools and commercial washrooms all expose mirrors to repeated wetting and drying. A moisture-resistant mirror, fitted correctly, keeps its bright reflection for much longer in these conditions.

Good installation matters as much as the mirror. Edges should be polished and, where possible, kept clear of standing water, and only mirror-compatible neutral cure adhesives should be used. Acid-curing silicones can attack the backing of any mirror.

Moisture-resistant mirror specification

  • Enhanced corrosion-resistant backing
  • 4 and 6 mm thicknesses
  • Polished and bevelled edges
  • Holes for demisters, sockets and fixings
  • Safety backing film available

How we supply moisture-resistant mirror

  1. Plan the mirror. Send the size, edge finish and positions of taps, sockets or lights.
  2. Cut and polish. The moisture-resistant mirror is cut and every edge polished.
  3. Add options. Holes, safety film and demister pads can be added.
  4. Deliver with fixing advice. We recommend the right mirror-safe adhesive and clips.

Getting the most from a moisture-resistant mirror

Leave a small gap between the bottom edge of the mirror and a basin or worktop so water cannot sit against the edge. Ventilate the room well and wipe away condensation where you can.

For a steam-free mirror after showering, ask about a heated demister pad, or choose one of our LED mirrors with a built-in demister.

For large bathroom mirrors and mirrors near showers, add safety backing film as well.

Moisture-resistant mirror FAQs

Why do bathroom mirrors go black at the edges?

Moisture reaches the silver at the edges and causes corrosion, often made worse by unsuitable adhesives. Moisture-resistant mirror and correct fixing greatly reduce this.

Which adhesive should I use?

Use a neutral cure, mirror-compatible adhesive. Avoid acetic (vinegar-smelling) silicones.

Can I have a demister on my mirror?

Yes. A heated demister pad can be fitted to the back and wired by a qualified electrician.

Is moisture-resistant mirror more expensive?

Slightly, but it lasts much longer in wet areas, so it is good value for bathrooms.
