Pergolas

Fixed-roof aluminium pergolas

No motors, no fuss. A strong aluminium frame with a slatted, polycarbonate or insulated roof, chosen for the shelter you want.

What is a fixed-roof pergola?

A fixed-roof pergola is an aluminium post-and-beam structure with a roof that doesn’t move. Depending on what you want from it, the roof can be slatted to cast dappled shade, translucent polycarbonate to keep off rain while letting light through, or solid insulated panels for full shelter. With no moving parts or motors, it’s the simplest and most affordable way to put a proper structure over a patio.

Fixed-roof aluminium pergolas at a glance

  • Frame: Powder-coated aluminium posts and beams
  • Roof options: Slatted, polycarbonate or insulated aluminium panels
  • Drainage: Solid roofs pitched to a gutter, draining through a post
  • Mounting: Wall-mounted or freestanding
  • Finish: Any RAL colour
  • Options: LED lighting, heaters and side screens

Which roof?

Slatted. Fixed aluminium slats give shade and a sense of enclosure but let rain through. They suit sunny, sheltered spots and gardens where the pergola is more about framing a space than keeping it dry.

Polycarbonate. Multiwall polycarbonate sheets keep rain off while letting soft, diffused light through. They’re lighter and cheaper than glass. Expect more drumming in heavy rain and a less crisp view of the sky.

Insulated panels. Solid aluminium-faced panels give complete shelter and shade, and they’re quiet in rain. Downlights can be built in. They’re good for outdoor kitchens and seating areas, but they darken a room if fitted right against the house.

If you’d like a clear roof that lets in daylight, look at our glass-roof pergolas. If you want to adjust the roof with the weather, look at motorised louvred pergolas.

How we survey, supply and fit fixed-roof pergolas

  1. Survey. We mark out the footprint, check the ground and the wall, and plan drainage for solid roofs.
  2. Design. We agree the size, roof type, colour and any lighting or screens.
  3. Made to measure. The frame and roof are made to your sizes and powder coated.
  4. Installation. We set the foundations or anchors, build and level the frame, fit the roof, and connect the gutters to drainage.
  5. Handover. We walk you through the simple care that keeps it looking new.

Fixed-roof pergola FAQs

What’s the difference between a fixed-roof and a louvred pergola?

A fixed-roof pergola has a roof that stays the same: slatted, polycarbonate or solid. A louvred pergola has rotating louvres you can open for sun and air or close for rain. Fixed roofs cost less and have no moving parts. Louvred roofs give you control.

Does a polycarbonate pergola roof get noisy in the rain?

It’s louder than glass or insulated panels. Rain on polycarbonate makes a noticeable drumming sound. If you plan to sit out in the rain a lot, an insulated or glass roof is quieter.

Do I need planning permission for a fixed-roof pergola?

Usually not, if it’s in the back garden and within the garden-structure exemption. Since July 2026, that allows up to 30 m² of garden structures in total and a height of up to 3 m, and you must leave at least 25 m² of garden. Our planning guide covers the details.

Can a fixed-roof pergola have lights?

Yes. LED strips and downlights can be built into the beams or the insulated roof panels. The connection is made by a registered electrician.
